New at V Zátiší: when food takes the lead role and the interior sets the perfect stage

The V Zátiší restaurant is undergoing its biggest transformation yet. And it's not just about a new interior, but mainly it is about the whole new concept. Both the cuisine and the atmosphere are shifting towards a modern take on the Slavic spirit.

A space where food takes the center stage is currently undergoing a transformation. Designer Jitka Třmínková believes this change will elevate V Zátiší to the top of the city's dining scene.

Everything is going away. Literally

"Everything is being removed. Down to the bare walls," Jitka Třmínková is describing the start of the renovation, which affects the entire interior of the restaurant. "The layout remains, only slightly modified, but the entrace area is opening up and evolving. It’s becoming the centerpiece of the interior, dominated by a new bar that will naturally draw both the eye and the guests," she explains.

This one will be something special. A rock formation runs throughout the spaces of restaurant, along with several other elements. "It's a basement space with a complex floor plan, low ceilings, and a lack of daylight. Instead of seeing this as a disadvantage, we consciously started working and playing with it, turning the negatives into positives," says the designer.

Slavic still life

The new direction of the restaurant, under the leadership of head chef Daniel Bureš and manager Marek Všelicha, has its roots in Slavic style – the atmosphere is meant to evoke nature, with earth-toned plaster walls, rock overhangs, branches and light, which passes through diffused Barrisol walls, in order to create the illusion of daylight. For instance, one of the installations is designed to evoke the feeling of walking through a forest.

The materials were carefully chosen to complement one another rather than clash and creating a tone on tone harmony — from earth-toned plasters to metallic metal laminates in a champagne color. “It’s a color that looks different from every angle, and the metallic coating contains sand, creating patina that shifts depending on the light and point of view. Each material stands on its own while also working in harmony with the others, and the metallics add a touch of exclusivity, which is typical for fine dining,”adds Třmínková.

Food takes the center stage

It was essential to allign the interior with the cuisine, which evolves along with the visuals. Zátiší is now repositioning itself as a modern fine dining restaurant with a stronger focus on Slavic flavors and ingredients. And the design fully respects this.

The whole concept began to take shape when I was having lunch and saw how the food was served and how imaginatively colorful it was.

"That’s when I started to figure out what the focus should be, the food. And the interior should give it space, not overpower it," says Třmínková.

And that’s exactly what gives V Zátiší a new dimension. The name of the restaurant became the foundation for the entire concept. "Even the word 'zátiší' (which means still life) is a concept in itself. Just like in the artistic sense of 'zátiší', we also work with the play of light and shadow here, using textiles and different structures, and above all, we pay attention to composition. All elements are arranged in a way that creates calm and harmony. The interior design is unified in tone through the materials, while also highlighting various textures. And the moment colorful food is served at the table, a real show begins and the guest finds themselves right in the created still life," he describes.

Rock, branches, mirrors

The bar plays a dominant role in the new design of the restaurant — a striking feature that also imitates a rock. The entire space creates a new dimension using mirrors, openings and overhangs, sparking the guest’s curiosity.

"Everything is designed not to be just purposeless design, but a space where a visit should become an experience in every sense," concludes Třmínková.

And it is precisely thanks to this philosophy that gives rise to a place that is not only aesthetically appealing but, above all, welcoming. For the food. For the guests. For the new story of V Zátiší.
