If you are a fan of Valentine’s Day, a Valentine’s evening is a great opportunity to enjoy delicious food, drinks, and immerse yourself in a romantic atmosphere. We’ve selected a few tips that might come in handy.

Romance with a view

Romantic dinner with a view of the entire city of Prague is a proven choice. You may enjoy such a view from the table at Terasa U Zlaté studně, where chef Lukáš Hlaváček has prepared a degustation menu full of luxurious ingredients, from aphrodisiac oysters with Ossetra caviar, duck foie gras, beef with Périgord truffle sauce, to fluffy chocolate soufflé and a variety of other courses.

If you would like to enjoy the opposite view and admire Charles Bridge and the panorama of Hradčany, there’s no better place for you than the Mlýnec restaurant. Even here, chef Láďa Vaníček hasn’t forgotten this evening and has prepared a special and decadent menu. You’ll taste the famous smoked veal tartare, shrimp bisque with St. James mussels, USDA Prime striploin steak, and a chocolate dessert, which is a must. All of this is complemented by a selection of interesting flavors and wines.

Valentine’s day in the heart of Prague

If you are looking for a place where the noblesse of First Republic history meets modern gastronomic art, head to Alcron for Valentine’s Day. Chef Richard Bielik has prepared an exclusive degustation menu for this special occasion, featuring indispensable St. James scallops, beef Wellington and not even a sweet finale to finish.

If you want to enjoy a dinner and lose yourself a bit in the winding streets of the Old Town, head to the V Zátiší restaurant, where chef Dan Bureš will play with your taste buds. You may look forward to oysters, caviar, foie gras, venison loin from deer, and a decadent white chocolate dessert. And of course, champagne that may flow freely on Valentine’s Day.

Take a Valentine’s get away

We have selected three charming castles for you to visit, offering a fantastic (not only) gastronomic experience. Whether you want to spend just a tens of minutes on the road from Prague or venture a bit farther, we’ve got you covered. We’ll start with the shortest trip, to Vysoký Újezd, where a first-class fine dining experience awaits you at the Papilio restaurant, led by Jan Knedlý, who has experience from several Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide, his expertise shines through in every dish.

Somewhere further, about an hour’s drive from Prague, you’ll arrive at Chateau Mcely, where you’ll be treated like royalty. On Valentine’s Day, chef Honza Štěrba has prepared a menu featuring seafood, veal tenderloin with truffles, and a nougat heart with raspberries. You may enjoy it in private by candles, or stay longer, relax in the spa, and spend the night in one of the castle suites.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, head to Hlohovec, a small village in the Lednice-Valtice complex, where you’ll find the charming border castle and the Essens restaurant. For Valentine’s Day, they’ve prepared a unique stay with a degustation menu by chef David Viktorin, who you may know as the sous chef from the Czech version of television show Hell’s Kitchen.

Relaxed Valentine’s day

Enjoy Valentine’s dinner a little differently, less formal, but certainly not at the expense of romance. Head to the Point dining bar near Old Town Square, enjoy a degustation dinner at the newly opened Tara, indulge in tapas at Lola, try fresh pasta at Suga, or have a beer and a great tartare at Kalenda’s. The possibilities are endless, and all that matters is that you enjoy the evening and that it lives up to your expectations.

If you prefer something more fresh, unique and completely different, we recommend the Valentines menu at the Peruvian ceviche bar Meza Cruz paired with renowned pisco sour, which they are able to mix together perfectly. You may enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Point Bar, which is just a short walk from Old Town Square. While the location might seem like a tourist trap, the reality is quite the opposite. As a dining bar, this place pays great attention to its kitchen, which follows Italian direction.

How to propose in a unique way

I will probably disappoint you right from the start, there’s no universal recipe, and every proposal is unique, reflecting the two of you. Don’t copy others, don’t overcomplicate things, and definitely don’t hide the ring into the champagne or dessert (that usually only works in the movies) and don’t try to create the perfect moment either. It probably won’t happen, and everything will likely go wrong instead, you know how it is, Murphy’s law.

If you’re planning to propose in a restaurant, perhaps even on Valentine’s Day, carefully consider your choice of location. It should be somewhere that holds special meaning for you, or somewhere you’ve been wanting to visit for a while, and you will be able to create that special meaning on this exceptional evening. Let the manager know about your plan, they might have a few secret tips for you. Here’s to hearing that "YES"!
